TABU 10U takes second place in 11U tournament in Woodland

In game 1, a junkball pitcher from the Folsom Fury kept TABU hitters off balance for the first 5 innings as the Fury built up a 6-1 lead.  Their “closer” threw a bit harder and a bit straighter. TABU batters lit him up for 6 runs in the top of the 6th for a comeback victory 7-6.

TABU took a 4-2 lead late in game 2 against the Athletics, but couldn’t hold on and lost 6-4 to become the 4 seed for the Sunday brackets.

TABU sent the Lodi Legends home early Sunday morning with a 15-3 win, then faced the #1 seed Elk Grove Longhorns.  EG was up 2-1 after the first inning, but TABU tied the game in the second, added 3 more in the third, then added another 3 to win behind Robert Chioino’s great pitching effort 8-6 and earn a spot in the Championship game re-match against the Athletics.

Nick Loya, Sonny Brandwood, Aaron Bell, and Zach Mata led the TABU offense this weekend by spraying line drives all over the field.  All had at least one triple – Sonny had three in one game!  Cody Stevenson, Cooper Smith, and TJ Myers irritated the opposition by laying down bunts, beating out ground balls, working walks, and stealing bases to earn small-ball victories. The boys really stepped it up on defense this weekend:  Zach turned a double-play, Mason Behiel took away hits from left field and 3rd base.  Robert, Cooper, and TJ chased down flies and line-drives in the outfield.

Cody led off the Championship game with a walk, then stole all the way around to get TABU on the board.  Mason took the mound, and was lucky to give up just one run in the first inning after walking 3 Athletics.  Mason had trouble with the strike zone again in the second and was pulled after giving up a single and walking 2 more. Aaron came in to clean up, but the Athletics were ahead 8-1 when the inning was over.  Aaron shut them down the rest of the way, but TABU could only score 3 more times and lost 8-4.

TABU relies on pitching and defense to become the Manteca April Baseball Classic champions

During the 4 game weekend sweep, TABU defense was perfect, making 35 put-outs with zero errors.  Cooper Smith made diving catches in right field, shortstop Zach Mata ranged deep in the hole and threw hard to gun baserunners out at first.  Kyle Williams caught pop-ups and played a soft glove at second.  In the semi-final game, TJ Myers fielded a ground ball at first, tagged the base and threw to catcher Mason Behiel. The runner scored, then Mason threw to Nick Loya at third who tagged the runner for an inning-ending double play.  That was the only run TABU allowed all weekend!

TABU pitchers allowed just 3 hits in 4 games.  Cooper pitched the first game of the double header Saturday night against the River Bandits.  He pitched perfect: 9 up, 9 down. The game was called with TABU up 14-0.

Cody pitched under the lights in game 2 against the Muckdogs.  Their coach provided the comic relief and fired up the TABU fans with his antics while TABU cruised to another shut-out 9-0.  The Muckdogs only hit came in the 4th inning right about the time one of their coaches was kicked out of the game – apparently for actually acting like a Muckdog!

Aaron Bell took the mound for the Semi-final game against the River Bandits and allowed just the one run on one hit.  Nick and Aaron traded positions for the last inning. Nick walked the first batter, the second one flew out to Cooper in right, he struck out their lead-off hitter, then Aaron snagged a hard line drive at third to end the inning.  TABU 13, River Bandits 1.

Mason started on the hill for the Championship game against the Bombers.  He faced just 10 batters all game. One beat out a slow grounder for an infield hit and the others accounted for all 9 outs as TABU won a quick one 16-0.

Mason led the offense this weekend with 8 hits and 10 RBI’s, Aaron hit a 3-run homer in the semi-final game, Nick hit 2 doubles in the championship game, Cody had 5 hits and stole 7 bases, Cooper reached base 10 times and scored 9 runs, Zachary Patterson drove in 5 to help the TABU offense score 52 runs this weekend on just 32 hits.

TABU 10U takes second place in USSSA Super NIT after losing to Lamorinda in the Championship game

TABU cruised through 3 teams Saturday to take the #1 seed in their bracket.  They beat the Whitecaps 9-1 behind a one-hit complete game by Mason Behiel.  Cody Stevenson followed by pitching a 15-3 complete game victory against Hard 90.  TJ Myers took the mound for game 3, and held the Valley Oaks to 3 runs while TABU scored 13.  Every TABU player had a least one hit Saturday:  Nathan Maggi and Zach Mata each had four including a double.

Nathan made his TABU debut on the mound Sunday morning and beat the Vacaville Dirty Dozen 10-1.  That set up a semifinal game against the Long Beach Fury. TABU came out swinging early, stealing often, and generally frustrating the struggling Fury defense.  TABU pitcher Robert Chioino kept the Fury off balance and cruised to a quick 9-1 victory.

Sonny took the mound against Lamorinda in the Championship game.  Cooper Smith led off with a walk and later scored to put TABU on the board early.  Sonny shut them down 1,2,3 in their half of the first inning, but they scored 3 in the second.  With 2 out, and 2 on in the top of the third, TJ drove in 2 runs with a hard grounder down the first base line to tie the game.  Sonny kept throwing hard strikes, but Lamorinda hit them where we weren’t and put TABU down 6-3.  Lamorinda hit 3 relief pitchers during that very long inning, and the game was called in the bottom of the third with Lamorinda up 18-3.

TABU honors fallen Oakland Police officers during Spring Bash tournament

TABU U10 team arrived for their game Saturday wearing OPD tee shirts with “Forever Heroes” and their uniform numbers on their backs as a tribute to the four officers were killed in Oakland last week.  Thanks to Coach CJ for having them made in their honor.  Throughout the weekend, fans came by the TABU dugout to express their support and many took pictures of the boys in blue.

Playing up in the 11u bracket and in support of the OPD, the boys came out swinging hard.  They beat the Fresno Blue Devils 11u team 10-2 by taking an early lead and keeping it by playing great defense and picking off baserunners.  Zachary pitched a complete game allowing just 5 hits and walking 3. Mason and TJ each had 3 hits, Zachary and Cody had 2 each.

In Game 2, TABU faced the 11u Headfirst Gamers.  The Gamers scored 9 in the first inning on 8 hits and 3 free passes.  They added 3 more in the second, but TABU fought back to keep the game close.  Mason had 3 hits, Cody and Aaron had 2 each, Cooper singled and reached base 3 times, Robert singled and scored twice.  Robert shut the Gamers down over the last 2 innings, but TABU fell short and lost 12-7.

When the first round brackets were complete, TABU 10 found themselves facing their brothers TABU 11 Sunday afternoon.  Spencer Hickerson started on the mound for the 11’s and his fastball proved to be too much for the 10’s.  He shut them out allowing just 2 hits (Robert and Cody), striking out 4, and walked 2 (Nick and Zachary).  Five errors by the 10’s in the first 2 innings, a double by Ruben Mercado, and a 2-run homer by Sonny (playing for the 11’s today), put the game out of reach early. TABU 11’s win 9-0.

TABU DOMINATES ON SUNDAY TO WIN 3rd TOURNAMENT IN ROW

In game 1, the Fresno Blue Devils kept the game close until TABU broke it open with 8 runs in the 5th inning to win 16-8.  Coop scored twice and drove in 2 with a single, Sonny Brandwood reached base and scored 4 times, Robert singled and walked, Mason drove in 4 runs with a single, sac. fly and a homerun, Nick had three base hits, TJ was 1 for 3, Zachary walked 3 times, Kyle had a bunt single and 2 walks, Cody had a 2-run triple and a bunt single, Aaron singled and scored.

Facing the Santa Cruz Waves in game 2, TABU scored 2 in the first inning on base hits by Robert and Mason.  After the Waves tied the game, TABU scored 3 more in the 2nd when Kyle and Cody walked and Zachary drove them in with a hard single – later scoring after 2 stolen bases and a passed ball.  TABU added another in the 3rd, but the Waves tied it up once again by scoring 4 in the bottom of the 4th.  TABU added 3 runs in the top of the 6th, but the Waves scored 4 in the bottom of the inning on a few walks, a few singles, and infield errors to win the game 10-9.

Game 3 was a re-match with the Waves.  With Robert on the mound and the TABU bats still hot, confidence was high.  Robert cruised for the whole game, allowing just one hit and one unearned run, striking out 10, walking none.  Meanwhile TABU put up 14 runs:  Coop went 3 for 4, Robert, 2 for 3 with a double, Mason reached base 4 times, drove in 5, and partnered up with Sonny for back-to-back homers in the 3rd inning.  TJ went 2 for 4, and Cody went 2 for 2 with 2 runs and 2 RBI’s.

TABU faced the backyard Bulldogs in the Championship game.  This time Sonny took the mound and cruised through the lineup as well allowing just one hit and one unearned run, striking out 7, walking none.  Coop led off the game with a homerun, Robert, TJ, Zach Mata, and Kyle all singled and scored twice, Mason doubled and homered, Sonny doubled and scored, Zachary singled and drove in 3.  Final score 14-1.

March 9, 2009 - Manteca, CA

TABU shuts out Cobras 10-0 in the March Madness Championship game to complete a 4 game tournament sweep.

Zachary Patterson no-hit the Backyard Bulldawgs 16-0 in game 1, striking out 9 and allowing just one base runner who was quickly picked off by catcher Mason Behiel during a steal attempt.  TJ Myers followed in game 2 by shutting out the Delta Dawgs while TABU hitters scored another 16 runs.  Aaron Bell started game 3 and was relieved by Cooper “Coop” Smith after walking a few batters. Coop faced 11 batters and got them all out.  Playing second base, Zach Mata made a great bare-handed play to gun a runner out at first. Robert Chioino and TJ Myers led the offense to an 11-3 win.

Mason Behiel took the mound for the championship game and allowed just a bunt hit in the first inning.  Coop led off the bottom of the inning with a single, then after 2 outs, Mason hit a shot down the line that rolled to the wall for a homerun.  The Cobras failed to reach base in the 2nd and 3rd innings while TABU scored 8 runs on another homer down the line by TJ, doubles by Mason and Cody Stevenson, and base hits by Coop and Kyle Williams.

Nick Loya earned the Tournament MVP Trophy with outstanding defense at the hot corner all weekend.

March 2, 2009 - Manteca, CA

TABU pitcher Robert Chioino no-hits Titans in the Championship game to win March Mayhem 09 tournament in Manteca.

TABU won the tournament by outscoring opponents 65-8 during a five game sweep.

In game 1, every TABU player had at least one hit to put away the Dawgs 17-2.

Four consecutive complete games by pitchers Aaron Bell, Cody Stevenson, Mason Behiel, and Robert Chioino wrapped up the weekend.  Stevenson led the offense this tournament with 7 hits including 2 doubles.  In the championship game, Chioino struck out 8 Titans and walked just one, who was thrown out by Behiel while attempting to steal, to complete a near perfect 15 up and 15 down pitching gem.  Good job TABU!

TABU 10U Fall Ball Team Wins USTBA Rocktoberfest Championship

TABU participated in the Rockertoberfest event hosted by Manteca Heat and USTBA the weekend of October 4 and 5 at the Tracy Sports Complex.

The opening game of the tournament had TABU facing off against the Stealth. At the end of the first inning the score was tied 2 – 2. TABU defense was able to hold the Stealth to no runs in the second and third innings, allowing 1 run in the fourth inning, and 2 more in the fifth inning. TABU offense scored 1 more run in the second, 3 more runs in the third, and 6 more in the fifth inning to finish the game with a 12 to 5 victory.

Game 2 of pool play would be against the Bombers. TABU bats and base running were right on target, however, pitching and defense were not as consistent in this match up. After walking 13 total Bombers batters, the final score was TABU 22 Bombers 10.

Playoff game was a repeat of TABU vs. Stealth. In almost a mirror image of the first game these two teams played against each other, TABU came out on top with a win of 13 to 8.

The Bombers won their playoff game against the Amigos advancing them to the Championship game against TABU. Mason Behiel was on the mound and led TABU to their second Championship in as many tournaments. Final score TABU 12 Bombers 2.

Offensive Tournament MVP went to Robert Chioino
Defensive Tournament MVP went to Kyle Williams.

TABU 10U Fall Ball Team Takes Home Championship In First Outing

TABU played in the Black Tie Bash hosted by Norcaltravelball the weekend of September 20 and 21 at the Twin Creeks facility.

In the first game of the tournament, TABU’s bats came out blasting against the Monterey Bay Otters for a win of 22 to 6.

Next, TABU faced the tough X Level Pirates and came out victorious in a 7 to 3 victory.

In the final pool play game Sunday morning, TABU faced off against the CV Sluggers. The Sluggers came out banging the ball in the first inning putting up 5 runs, adding 3 more runs in the third inning. They were able to hold TABU to only 1 run until the 5th inning where TABU scored a 5 spot of their own. The final score was Sluggers 8 TABU 6.
